One more Tarte Holiday set today, their biggest one yet. The Carried Away With Tate Collector's Set comes in a cute travel bag and inside are:
24 full sized Amazonian clay eye shadows
8 Maracuja lip glosses
1 Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in Adventurous (shimmering rose)
1 blush brush
1 lights, camera, lashes! mascara
1 Amazonian clay finishing powder
The kit retails for $54.
Since this set contains quite a bit of stuff, I'll break it down to several posts. Starting with the Amazonian Clay eyeshadows..
A wide range of colors and textures (matte, shimmery, duo chromes, glittery).
Most of the shades in this set are pretty pigmented and soft to the touch. Specifically the first four and Pyramid Gold are creamy. Volcanic Ash (glitter), Touchdown in Londontown (duo chrome) and Martha's Vineyard (matte) are all hard and less pigmented. I had to pat in the second layer to get an even swatch.
I liked this set the best color wise but although all of the shades were softer and creamier (even Napa Grapes), they were less pigmented and most needed 3 layers. Tuscan Sun and Acai Jungle were the only ones that didn't give me any problems.
This one is similar to the first one, mostly good but there were still duds. Sunshine State is very glittery and had a good bit of fall-out. Sin City had less fall-out but is relatively sheer. Hampton Waves is okay, its buildable and creamy but still lacking in pigment in my opinion. The best ones are Concrete Jungle and Olive Grove.
Overall, the palette left me feeling a bit lukewarm. I think it would appeal to beginners who don't have a lot of eyeshadows but to those who are pickier, I suggest swatching first.
Lip glosses are next! :)
