Burberry Lip Velvet Long Wear Lipstick in Bright Poppy

I love Burberry but I was rather underwhelmed by their lipsticks so I wasn't too excited about the Lip Velvets. First because mattes are really hard for me to wear, my lips look more prune-like with drier formulas (lots and lots of lines). Secondly, I was a little afraid of the heavy rose scent. My lone Burberry lipstick in Heather, I couldn't use for a while because of the smell. Bright Poppy though, was too pretty to pass up. It looked like the perfect berry shade, not too dark with just enough red.

If MAC Media and Rouge d'Armani 400 had a baby, it would be Burberry Bright Poppy. Aside from the color, it isn't as densely pigmented as the Armani, but it doesn't have the same slip as MAC's either. More on the texture, it is creamy enough but I definitely need some sort of balm underneath or it will emphasize every imperfection. I think the lasting power is where it excels, I can wear it for a solid 5 hours with minimal fading or transfer. For a matte formula that doesn't dry out my lips to last that long is impressive. Another plus is the scent isn't quite as strong as I remember.. maybe I imagined it? lol

Excuse the odd squinty expression, I'm still getting used to the new camera.

I can't say if I will be buying any more of the Lip Velvets (I much prefer the Lip Maestro from Armani) but I am pretty pleased with Bright Poppy and recommend you check it out if you are still looking for a berry lip to rock this season.

Have you tried these? What did you think?

Thanks for stopping by! :)

  1. That looks like THE most gorgeous winter colour. I've never found a berry red that I've liked as they tend to not ever be as red as I'd like but this is perfect. Definitely will be adding this to my wishlist. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post! x
